In the spring of 2000 we had a short holliday (8 days) in France. As we like the Elzas very much, we picked a nice appartment (found on internet) in Bergheim, Cour du Bailli. Bergheim is a little village, surrounded by grapes .. and they make some good wines of course ! Bergheim is also very near to Ribeauville and Riquewihr (very beautifull, but also a lot of tourists). All the other famous villages of the Elzas as well as Colmar (a city you must visit) are close to Bergheim. In Bergheim there are a couple of nice restaurants. We particulary liked the restaurant just across our appartment, Auberge des Lavandieres, and 'Au Sommelier'. Hotel Norbert should have a good restaurant as well, but we haven't had dinner there. You can make some short walks around Bergheim. But for serious walking you have to go the hills (not too far). Bergheim has a very old port (14 th century) and you can still walk around the village, over the former walls. |

Enjoying one of the specialities of the Elzas, Pfannkuchen ! (something between a pancake and a pizza). Very good on a hot day with a cold beer (There are a couple of breweries in the Elzas as well). |

Rainbow over the 14 th century port of Bergheim. Our appartment was appr. 50 meters behind the port. .jpg)

a walk between the grapes, with Iza on my back .. it felt very good. After a walk of appr. 1,5 hour we went in for a cool glass of pinot blanc and a cremant d'alsace. |
